SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s varsity boys basketball team got off to a slow start before making a run at the DeKalb Barons Tuesday night. In a 58-49 loss at the Hardwood Teepee Tuesday night, the host Warriors trailed 12-6 after one quarter of play and 26-11 at halftime. Wawasee outscored the Barons 38-32 after the intermission, though it wasn’t enough. The Warriors fell to 1-8 on the season, while DeKalb improved to 4-5. Jayce Boatwright led a balanced Wawasee scoring attack with 13 points, while Jairus Boyer and Tyler Smith scored 11 and nine points, respectively, and Cayden Wegener added eight points. The Warriors are in action again Friday when they host Northern Lakes Conference foe NorthWood. Hunter Cone led DeKalb with a game-high 20 points, while Seth Edmondson made five treys and a free throw for his 16 points. Isaac Brown and Will Chrisman scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Barons. Wawasee Swimmers Drop Two To Northridge SYRACUSE – The Wawasee swim teams both lost Northern Lakes Conference meets to Northridge; the boys score was 127-53 and the girls tally was 127-59. Paige Miller won the 500 free in 5:04.90, her best time of the season. Logan Brugh won the 500 free in the boys meet. The Warriors are now 3-3 in the NLC and for the season, while the Lady Warriors are 5-2 for the season and 4-2 in the conference. The teams host the Goshen Redhawks Saturday morning.
