Wawasee Softball Team Leads Roundup With Win At Wawasee

PLYMOUTH — The Wawasee softball team improved its Northern Lakes Conference record to 2-3 Wednesday in Plymouth. Downing the host Plymouth Lady Pilgrims 14-1 in five innings, the Wawasee Lady Warriors now sit at 8-5 overall on the year. Scoring in double digits for the third-straight game, Wawasee plated five in the first and coasted from there. Kylee Rostochak, Danielle Gunkel and Meghan Fretz each had two hits for Wawasee, with Rostochak also hitting a double and driving in two runs. Along with doing it at the plate, Fretz was also the winning pitcher, going all five innings, striking out 12 and giving up just one hit. The Lady Warriors are back NLC action Friday at Goshen. Wednesday in Baugo After falling behind 1-0 at Jimtown Wednesday, the Triton softball team rallied to get the 3-1 Northern State Conference victory. Triton’s Mallorie Jennings pitched all seven innings, striking out eight. The win improves Triton’s record to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the NSC. Wednesday in Denver On the road to take on Class 1A No. 1 North Miami for a Three Rivers Conference contest Wednesday, the Manchester softball team had a perfect game pitched against it, losing 5-0. North Miami ace Josie Wood had 18 strikeouts in the perfect game, while also getting three hits including a home run. For Manchester, Brooklyn Howard was hit with the loss, pitching six innings and striking out five. The 7-5 (1-1 TRC) Lady Squires are at Fort Wayne Canterbury today. Wednesday in Wabash The Tippecanoe Valley softball team scored five runs in the seventh inning Wednesday at Northfield, rallying to get the 11-9 Three Rivers Conference win. Kassidy Shepherd was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings. At the plate, Abby Betten was 3 for 5 with a double and five RBIs. The 6-5 Lady Vikings host their own tournament Saturday. GIRLS TENNIS Wednesday in Akron Hosting John Glenn Wednesday, the Tippecanoe Valley girls tennis got itself a 4-1 victory. Improving to 2-7 on the year, Valley’s Hanna Dalrymple won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Whitney Haneline and Ariel Schoettmer won 6-4, 4-6, 10-8, claiming the third set in a super tiebreaker since the team match had already been decided by then. With it’s 84 points, Whitko got wins over Northfield (72) and Manchester (68). Manchester is at Wabash tonight and Whitko is off until the May 10 Goshen Relays.
