Wawasee Second, Warsaw Third In NLC Swimming

DUNLAP - On a day when pool or conference records fell, Northridge once again stood tall in the Northern Lakes Conference boys swim meet Saturday at Concord High School.

Among area schools competing, both Wawasee and Warsaw took first-place finishes in the meet, but it was Northridge which came away with the NLC title for the seventh straight year.

Northridge, which finished the regular season NLC standings with a 7-0 record, took first in seven of the 12 events Saturday and won convincly with 360 points.

Wawasee finished a distant second with 260.5 points, followed by Warsaw (254), Concord (147), Elkhart Memorial (94), Plymouth (86), NorthWood (77.5) and Goshen 55.

The Tigers took three first-place finishes en route to finishing third as a team.

Nate Taylor won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 59.12 seconds, a time that is a new NLC record.

Warsaw's Thad Wallin took first in the 100 breaststroke with a tiime of 54.41 seconds, while Tiger Steven Lowrance won the 50 freestyle in a time of 22.10 seconds.

Among other strong Warsaw finishes, the foursome of Kyle Marose, Wallin, Taylor and Lowrance finished second in a time of 1:38.11, beating their own NLC record of 1:39.23 set in the prelims, but Northridge took first and set a new conference record of 1:36.65.

Wawasee's lone first-place finish came in the 200 freestyle relay, where the quartet of Brian Doty, Jordan Rantz, Steve Dingeldein and Aaron Phillippe won in a time of 1:31.11.

The only other non-Northridge first-place finish came in the diving competition, where Concord's David Linn scored 422.20 points.

Art Miller led the Northridge attack by claiming NLC records in both the 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley.

Warsaw is in action again Tuesday at Fort Wayne Snider, while Wawasee is scheduled to swim at East Noble Tuesday.
