Wawasee Second, Warsaw Fourth In Northern Lakes Tournament

MIDDLEBURY – Wawasee placed all five if its golfers in the Top 10, but NorthWood won the team title at the Northern Lakes Conference girls golf tournament Saturday. Wawasee was second. Warsaw’s Madi Graham was tied for ninth to lead the Lady Tigers to a fouth-place finish, behind Plymouth. The Lady Warriors’ Kylee Rostochak and Aubrey Schmeltz tied NorthWood’s Mackenzie Weaver for second, three shots behind Lady Panther Summer Stillson. Madison Beaman was seventh for Wawasee, with Mikala Mawhorter eighth and Kamryn Foy tied Graham for ninth. The Lady Tigers’ Delaney Wihebrink finished tied for 13th, Page Desenberg tied for 18th, Morgen Fuentes was 21st, and Madelyn Ray tied for 22nd. Saturday in Huntington Manchester’s Kelsey Eichenauer finished sixth, with teammate Lydia Little taking 10th, and Tippecanoe Valley’s Victoria Biddle took seventh in the Three Rivers Conference girls golf tournament at Norwood Golf Club in Huntington Saturday. Southwood was the team champion, and Rochester’s Kinley Lingenfelter was the medalist, shooting a 77. The Lady Squires finished third in the team competition. Valley was seventh, and Whitko eighth. Valley will host LaVille at Rochester’s Mill Creek Golf Course this afternoon. Whitko will take on Warsaw at Stonehenge Tuesday. Saturday Triton tied for third with North Judson in the first-ever Hoosier North Athletic Conference girls golf tournament. Winamac was the champion, and Pioneer was second. Kayla Kreft made the all-conference team, shooting a 111. Tessa Heaton’s 120 was good enough to be named honorable mention. Kate Gardner had a 128 and Sam Edington a 138 to round out the Triton effort.
Cross Country Saturday in Akron Manchester’s Rae Bedke and Tahnee Fuentes finished sixth and seventh, respectively, to lead the Lady Squires to a third place finish in the Tippecanoe Valley Invitational girls cross country race. Whitko’s Brigit Nemitz cracked the top 10, finishing ninth in 20:21. In the boys race, the Squires’ Thomas Rohr was fourth overall as Manchester finished fifth as a team. Tippecanoe Valley’s Jesse Floor finished 11th, just missing the top 10 by two seconds. The host Vikings took 10th in the boys race, and ninth in the girls race. Boys Soccer Saturday in Lakeville Lakeland Christian Academy went 0-2 in the Lancer Cup tournament against LaVille and South Bend Washingon. The Cougars fell 5-0 to LaVille and 8-0 to South Bend Washington. LCA is 0-10 on the year and will take on Culver Community tomorrow afternoon.
Saturday in S. Whitley Goalkeeper Devin Goggin recorded 16 saves for Whitko in its 6-0 loss to Woodlan Saturday. The Wildcats travel to Albion to take on Central Noble today.
Girls Soccer Saturday in S. Whitley Whitko junior Riley Insley scored in the first half, and classmate Abby Overmeyer scored the game-winning goal in the second half in the Lady Wildcats 2-1 win over Woodlan. Senior goalkeeper Ilyssa Bennett recorded eight saves in the match. The squad will host Manchester in a Three Rivers Conference match on Wednesday.
Saturday in Syracuse Culver Academy scored three goals in the final eight minutes of the first half on its way to a 5-0 over Wawasee at Warrior Field. In the junior varsity game, Culver Academy scored three second half goals to win 3-0. Now 3-5-1 on the year, Wawasee will host Fort Wayne Concordia at 5 p.m. today.
Boys Tennis Saturday in Warsaw Colton Lind finished fourth at No. 2 singles as the Tigers finished seventh in its Varsity Tournament Saturday. Crown Point was the tourney champion. Volleyball Saturday in Bourbon Triton went 3-1 in its tournament on Saturday. The Lady Trojans beat Argos 25-11, 25-6, defeated Culver 25-6, 25-11 and trimmed LaVille 25-22, 25-17. In Triton’s third match they lost to 25-15, 25-16 to eventual tournament champions John Glenn. The Lady Trojans will host Elkhart Christian at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Football Friday in N. Manchester Bailey Ness completed 16 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for a third score in Manchester’s 34-21 loss to Peru Friday night. The game was moved from Peru to Manchester Friday afternoon due to a water main break on the Peru campus. Keelan Norwood and Kane Gable hauled in touchdown passes from Ness. Josh Shepherd led the Squires in rushing with 31 yards on eight carries. Jared Gable had Kane Gable had 10 tackles each for the Squires. Shepherd had eight stops with Trey McNall, Rylie Rickert and Lucas Williams credited with seven tackles each. Manchester will look for its first win over the season Friday night when they host Northfield.
