Wawasee Pours It On Against SquiresNORTH MANCHESTER – When it rains it pours.
In more ways than one, that was the story of Thursday evening’s high school baseball game between the Wawasee Warriors and host Manchester Squires.
With rain coming down before the sun eventually shined, Wawasee scored five runs in the first inning and 10 more in the second en route to a 15-2, five-inning victory.
The Warriors outhit Manchester 9-2, and capitalized on four fielding errors by the Squires.
Gabe Moore and Levi Brown had two hits each for Wawasee, with Moore collecting a double.
Logan Adkins also belted a double for the visitors, while Kameron Salazar, Grant Brooks, Carter Woody and Austin Baker all hit a single.
Brown led Wawasee in RBIs with three.
Mason Roberts and Korbin Hensley both hit a single for the Squires, who scored once in the second inning and once in the fourth.
Brown picked up the win on the mound after giving up one hit and one run, and striking out three in two innings of work.
Jacob Krugman pitched two innings for Wawasee, giving up one hit and one run while striking out four.
Tony Garcia worked the final inning for the Warriors. He walked two and struck out two.
Mason Meyer was charged with the loss for Manchester. He gave up eight hits and 15 runs in 1-2/3 innings while walking two.
Justin Self and Sam Martindale combined to pitch the rest of the way for the Squires.
Both Manchester and Wawasee are 1-1 on the season.
In JV action, Wawasee improved to 2-0 with a 9-4 win over the Squires.
Charlie Doss and Jacob Meek had two hits each for the Warriors, while Adam Beer struck out five Manchester batters and didn’t give up a hit or a run in 2-1/3 innings on the mound.
