WARSAW – After a scoreless first half, Plymouth’s varsity boys soccer team unleashed a late second-half barrage and captured a 3-1 win over Wawasee in the opening match of the Warsaw Sectional. Plymouth will meet NorthWood in the second of two semifinals on Wednesday. Defending sectional champion Warsaw will face Culver Academies in the first semifinal at 5pm. Cesar Aguilar opened the scoring for Plymouth with an unassisted goal with 33:24 showing on the clock in the second half. Aguilar scored again with 11:57 to play, getting an assist from Ronald Garcia, and Gonzalo Figueroa scored off an assist from Clay Marshall to put Plymouth up 3-0 with 6:49 to go. Wawasee avoided the shutout when Luis Carnargo broke free from midfield and outran the defenders, putting the goal in unassisted for the Warriors with just under three minutes remaining. “Best soccer of the season,” said Wawasee coach Jordan Sharp. “The boys played so hard. First time this season we went harder after getting scored on. I could not be prouder of my boys.” Plymouth got off 10 shots in the game, while Wawasee took eight shots. The Warriors took three corner kicks to Plymouth’s one.
