SYRACUSE - The Wawasee Community School Corp. is the only school district in Kosciusko County that offers string orchestra instruction among its academic programs.Beginning in the fifth grade, students may begin the study of violin, viola, cello or string bass, and can continue the study of those instruments throughout middle school and high school. Orchestra director Dr. Joyce Dubach works with nearly 100 string students in all five schools in the corporation.
Dubach has been visiting fourth-grade students to talk about the string instruments and enrolling in the orchestra program for next year. Informational meetings will be held for parents of next year's fifth-grade students this week at each of the elementary schools. Information will be given about the orchestra classes and an opportunity will be available to arrange for renting an instrument for the year.
The meetings will be at North Webster Elementary School Thursday in the music room at 7 p.m.; and at Syracuse Elementary School today in the middle school band room at 5:30 p.m.
Parents who are unable to attend any of the meetings may contact Dubach at Wawasee High School at 574-457-3147, or through the elementary schools, North Webster, 574-834-7644; Milford School, 574-658-9444; and Syracuse Elementary, 574-457-4484.
