SYRACUSE – After getting shut out by Concord on Saturday, the Wawasee boys soccer team was ready to pass the agony of defeat along to another team. The Warriors did just that, shutting out Hamilton 5-0 on Senior Night at Warrior Field Monday. It took Wawasee 20 minutes to get on the board, with senior Carlos Camargo knocking it in from the center of the box. Fourteen minutes later, classmate Alex Doll scored, and Wawasee led 2-0 at halftime. With the Warriors going into a strong wind in the second half, Doll scored a second goal 35 seconds into the second half. Senior Kyle Weideman scored in the 61st minute and freshman Ian Lambright wrapped up the Warrior scoring two minutes later. Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp said his team was looking to restore a little swagger after Saturday’s tough loss. “The goal of the day was to learn how to score, because we’ve been short with that,” Sharp said. “We wanted our guys to build some confidence in front of the goal, because it’s something they need to have. “And we wanted to get our seniors in. We got to do all those things, and it’s nice to be able to let them go out and have some fun.” After the Warriors opened the season with four games in six days, getting their first win of the year Monday, Sharp is fired up about having time to work on some things in practice, namely keeping the ball out of their defensive end. “I’m excited we have only one other game this week, so we have some practices,” said Sharp. “So it’ll be nice to take some stuff we need to work on to the training ground tomorrow. “We need to be mad, and angry, about anybody getting close to our box. We want to get our guys a little more fired up about keeping a clean (score) sheet, and just manning up in the back. We’ve been too soft in the back, and that’s not been OK.” Wawasee will host West Noble on Thursday.
