SYRACUSE - No members of the public were present at the Wawasee Community School Corp. Board of School Trustees meeting Tuesday for reading of the 2004 budgets.
The total of all funds to be advertised for 2004 for Wawasee School Corp. is $30,840,160, which includes: general fund, $19,741,764; debt service fund, $4,871,727; capital projects fund, $3,847,216; transportation operating fund, $1,745,510; bus replacement fund, $324,915; special education preschool fund, $68,750; and the bond debt service fund, $240,278.
Budget adoption is set for Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
In another matter, board member Marion Acton asked what the student count was for Wawasee schools.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Stock did not have a total figure for all schools, but said for opening day enrollment, the student count was down 36 students compared to last year's opening day enrollment. It's the "lowest enrollment we had in a decade," he said.
Only North Webster Elementary School "seems to be growing, and it looks like it will continue to grow." The other Wawasee schools' growth is flat or decreasing, Stock said.
He said he couldn't and wouldn't predict what the average daily member day count in September will be because there's been no trend in recent years.
"It's the ADM day that (affects) the funding formula," Stock said.
The school board also approved the employment of Adrian Hartsough on a regular teacher contract to be the band and choir teacher at Milford School and part-time general music teacher at North Webster and Syracuse schools.
Members of the Wawasee School Board are Dallas Winchester, Jeff Wells, Mary Lou Dixon, Marion Acton and Brian Dawes.
