MIDDLEBURY — The Northridge girls swim team was able to hold off Wawasee Saturday in Middlebury to win its own sectional. A year after watching Concord snap its streak of 10-straight sectional titles, the Northridge Lady Raiders restored order, winning with 490.5 points, followed by Wawasee with 368. Despite not winning the title, the Wawasee Lady Warriors did advance to this week’s state finals in four events, led by another dominating performance by sophomore Bre Robinson. As a freshman, Robinson finished second in the 200 free and third in the 100 free at the state meet, and she’s going back in each event this year. Robinson won the 200 free in 1:50.76 and also set a new pool record while winning the 100 free in 51.29. The previous record was 51.65, which Robinson set on Jan. 12 of this year. On top of winning the two individual events, Robinson also anchored the 200 free relay of sophomore Rachel Rozow, sophomore Kendra Miller and freshman Kayla Hershberger, which finished third, but its time of 1:38.95 met the state cut. Wawasee’s other state qualifier was freshman Betsy Bowen, who won the 100 back in 1:01.48. The state competition at IUPUI’s Natatorium in Indianapolis begins with prelims Friday, with the top 16 advancing to Saturday’s finals.
