Wawasee Gets Win Over NSC Champ Bremen

SYRACUSE – Wawasee pitcher Danielle Gunkel threw a complete game and struck out four, and added three hits on offense in the Lady Warriors win 6-1 win over Bremen in a battle of Northern Lakes and Northern State conference champions Friday evening.
Meghan Fretz and Allissa Flores each homered for the Lady Warriors. Madi Wilson and Kabrea Rostochak added two hits each to Wawasee’s 10-hit attack. Wilson also scored twice.
With the regular season now complete, Wawasee will take a 20-5 record into the Lakeland Sectional, where they have a first-round bye and will take on the winner of the Tippecanoe Valley/Fairfield game at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Friday in Winamac
Celina Carter doubled twice, Kiera Stacy added a two-bagger of her own and Sydney Day homered in Manchester’s 6-0 win over Winamac.
Brooklyn Howard tossed a two-hit shutout for the Lady Squires, striking out 13 and walking none.
Manchester wrapped up its regular season at 12-9 and will now take on host Cass at 11:30 a.m. Monday to open sectional play.

Softball
Thursday in Warsaw
Sophomores Abby Glass, Lauren Shaffner and Morgan Ashtari all homered for the Lady Tigers in Warsaw’s 19-9 loss to Elkhart Memorial in the Northern Lakes Conference finale for both teams.
Warsaw finished NLC play with a 2-12 record, and will open the Elkhart Memorial Sectional at 10 a.m. Monday against Goshen.
The result of Friday’s Tippecanoe Valley at Warsaw game was not available as of press time.

Friday in Peru
Manchester’s season ended in the Peru Sectional final as the Lady Squires fell to fellow Three Rivers Conference member Wabash 4-1.
The lady Squires finish the season with a 9-4 overall record.
