Wawasee Earns 2nd Win Of The Season, Defeat Lakers

LAGRANGE – Sweeping the singles matches and winning at No. 2 doubles, Wawasee earned its second boys tennis team win of the season, beating Lakeland 4-1 Wednesday afternoon. Nate Haines, Nathan Perek and Cameron Brill each won in straight sets at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Evan Krueger and Dylan Staley needed three sets to win at No. 2 doubles for Wawasee. Wednesday in Huntington Sweeping the doubles matches and winning at No. 3 singles, Warsaw edged Huntington North 3-2 for the Tigers’ second win of the season in as many tries. Colton Lind and Christopher Herendeen won at No. 1 doubles in straight sets, and the No. 2 doubles team of Hudson Snyder and Andrew Gauger did likewise. Ryan Wettschurack also had a straight-set win over Matt Karst at No. 3 singles. Wednesday in South Whitley A forfeit at No. 3 singles was the difference in Whitko’s 3-2 loss to Maconaquah. The Wildcats won both doubles matches contested, with Nic Rose and Tim Gensch winning at No. 1 in straight sets. Cory Hersha and Micah Cokl took the No. 2 doubles match in three sets. Wednesday in Bourbon Triton’s Gavin Eads won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, but it was the lone match the Trojans would take in a 4-1 loss to Knox in the season and Hoosier North Athletic Conference debut for both teams. Girls Soccer Wednesday in N. Manchester Manchester’s Lady Squires moved to 2-0 on the new season with a 5-0 shutout of Mississinewa at home Wednesday. The home team led 2-0 at the half. Manchester took 27 shots on goal in the contest. Meghan Davis had two goals, Brooklyn Howard and Lauren Metzger scored once each. Carsyn Howard had an assist and a goal. Bethany Collett had one assist and Ellie Milam had a pair of helpers. Goalie Kiera Stacy gets credit for the shutout. The Lady Squires will travel to Warsaw for a match at 6:45 p.m. tonight.
Girls Golf Wednesay in Huntington Warsaw dropped a 185-193 decision at Huntington North Wednesday afternoon. Madi Graham was the medalist, posting a career-best 9-hole score of 38. Page Desenberg carded a 49, with Madelyn Ray turning in a 52. Morgen Fuentes and Delaney Wihebrink posted identical 54s. The Lady Tigers fell to 1-1 on the year. The junior varsity also lost 222-234. Madison Martz paced the JV with a 54. Izzy Ray shot a 58, Miriam Hagg a 67 and Shelby Paseka a 77. The Lady Tigers travel to Round Barn Golf Club in Rochester where they will take on Wabash and host Tippecanoe Valley today.
