SYRACUSE – Multiple construction projects were the focus of the Wawasee Community School Corporation board meeting Tuesday night. Both Milford School and Wawasee High School will receive updates this summer. Barton-Coe-Vilamaa, Architects & Engineers, is the firm handling the renovations. The board approved Barton-Coe-Vilamaa to start advertising bids for these projects. The board will hear the Milford bid at the March meeting and the WHS bid in April. The plan is to make changes in the cafeteria and both gyms at Milford School. Other changes include transforming computer labs into classrooms, a new heating and cooling system and roof repair. The high school will receive changes to several classrooms, including the choir and band rooms. Work has continued throughout the winter on Syracuse Elementary School. Masons are scheduled to begin March 1. Electronic devices for teachers have been ordered. The 1:1 initiative was detailed by Jace Stewart, who advised student devices need to be ordered soon and that infrastructure upgrades will be added. Warriorwarehouse.com has been established as a professional staff development website for employees, Stewart said. In other news, corporation attorney James Flecker sold the board on purchasing property west of Kern Road for $183,500. These 24 wooded acres are often used for hunting, and Flecker said that could cause problems in the future. The board approved this motion.
