Wawasee Baseball Team Wins Sectional Opener

Posted
SOUTH WHITLEY – Opening Class 3A Sectional 21 at Whitko High School Wednesday, the Wawasee baseball team defeated West Noble for the second time in two nights.
Having just defeated West Noble 12-8 in Tuesday’s regular season finale in Syracuse, the Warriors did it once again Wednesday, this time 6-5 in South Whitley.
The second win had a lot more meaning behind it, as Wawasee (11-15) advances to Saturday’s 11 a.m. semifinal against Fairfield (19-7). The winner of that contest will then compete for the sectional title Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Gage Fannin carried the load on the mound for the Warriors, going all seven innings, giving up five runs, three earned, as well as eight hits and six walks.
Gage Reinhard had a stellar day at the plate, going 4 for 4 with two runs, a double and an RBI.
Drew Anderson was 2 for 4 in the win and Harrison Shortill was 1 for 1 with an RBI.
Wawasee and Fairfield were scheduled to play May 20 in Benton, but the game had to be cancelled.
