Wawasee Baseball Team Gets First Win In Local Roundup

SYRACUSE — Hosting a Northern Lakes Conference game against Elkhart Memorial Wednesday, the Wawasee baseball team got its first win of the season. In the 6-2 conference win, Wawasee posted nine hits, four of which were doubles. Those extra base hits were supplied by sophomore Nate Prescott, who hit two, as well as junior Nate Hare and sophomore Drew Anderson. Prescott finished the game going 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Junior Gage Fannin was the winning pitcher, lasting six innings and striking out seven. With the victory, Wawasee now sits at 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the NLC. Up next for the Warriors is another NLC contest at NorthWood Friday. The Whitko baseball team defeated Peru 4-3 Wednesday evening in Peru. Wyatt Wolf pitched a complete game for the Whitko Wildcats, allowing six hits and striking out five. Offensively, Zach Snep was 2 for 3 with an RBI, helping Whitko improve to 7-3 on the year. The Triton softball team held off a late rally by John Glenn to get a 7-6 home win Wednesday night in Northern State Conference action. Mallorie Jennings was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings, striking out five and allowing six hits and six runs, although only one was earned. Krystal Sellers went 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI, while drawing two walks as well. The Lady Trojans are at Manchester tonight at 5 p.m. then host Bremen Friday at 5 p.m. in another NSC contest. The Warsaw softball team got its first win of the season Wednesday in Goshen. Improving to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the Northern Lakes Conference, the Warsaw Lady Tigers breezed to a 9-0 victory. Junior pitcher Kaleigh Speicher got the win, allowing just three hits. Warsaw is back in NLC action Friday at Plymouth. The Triton boys track and field team host a three-team Northern State Conference meet that had to be cut short Wednesday because of lightning. Failing to get the last four events in, including the 3200, 1600 relay, pole vault and high jump, Bremen came out on top at the meet with 62 points, while Jimtown scored 58 and Triton had six. Four of Triton’s six points were scored by Jeremy Jones, who finished third in the 100 and 200. The Warsaw girls track and field team had such a big lead at Goshen Wednesday night, that the incompletion of the final two events didn’t mean much. Lightning forced the Northern Lakes Conference meet to end before the 3200 and 1600 relay were completed, but Warsaw still returned home with a 101.5-16.5 win over Goshen. In the lopsided victory, the Lady Tigers received first-place individual finishes from Samantha Jensen (discus), Megan Dearlove (pole vault), Jamie Lacheta (high jump), Samantha Alexander (long jump), Jhovanna Cervantes (shot put), Elise White (100 hurdles), Ann Harvuot (100, 200), Sarah Ray (1600), Cynthia Yoder (400), Megan Kratzsch (300 hurdles), Hannah Dawson (800). Lightning made it impossible to get three events in at Wednesday’s three-team, Northern State Conference girls track and field meet at Triton. Scoring 13 of the 16 events, with the 3200, 1600 relay and pole vault not scheduled to be made up, the Bremen Lady Lions came out on top with 67 points, followed by Triton’s 37 and Jimtown’s 33. Triton received first-place finishes from Breanna Lemler (400), Shana Anderson (800), Becca Kennedy (discus) and its 3200 relay.
