Watershed Asks For Volunteer ‘Scientists’

Posted
Join The Watershed Foundation on Sept. 27 and be one of 150 or so volunteers to assist in monitoring water quality at 100 sites throughout Kosciusko, Noble and Whitley Counties – all in one afternoon.

Snapshot Day volunteers will become “citizen scientists,” monitoring temperature, dissolved oxygen and transparency at local sites. Participants will collect water samples for analysis of bacteria, nitrate, phosphate and pH levels. The valuable data collected by volunteers will be used to drive action for clean water.

Monitoring sites will vary from wetlands to large streams to small ditches through culverts on county roads. Sites have been assessed for their safety and difficulty to access, and there are a wide range for varying abilities that will be needed.

The event runs from 2 to 6 p.m. The time commitment could stretch from 90 minutes to two hours.

Register online at www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b45acad22a7fa7-snapshot or call 574 834-3242.

At registration, TWF will provide the sampling materials and more information on testing sites.

TWF was founded in 1997 to protect and improve water quality in the Upper Tippecanoe River Watershed; spanning from Crooked Lake in Whitley County to the Warsaw-Winona area.
