Water Heater Blamed In House Fire

Posted

An estimated $50,000 in damage resulted from a house fire believed to have originated at the home's hot water heater. Pierceton Fire Department Chief Gordon Baker said the homeowner told fire investigators she heard an explosion in the utility room and, when she went to find out what happened, she saw flames and called for the fire department. The fire, at the Harold Baldridge residence on East Wooster Road, was under control in about an hour, Baker said. Although the fire damage was contained to the south end of the home, the structure sustained smoke damage throughout. Assisting at the scene were crews from Warsaw and Winona Lake fire departments. No injuries were reported. Photo by Gary Nieter, Times-Union
