Waste District OKs Insurance For Director

Posted

Good health insurance is important to any employee of any organization.

Wednesday, the Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District board approved the terms of insurance for SWMD director Marsha Eikenberry.

Those terms include a $500 deductible, life, health, supplemental accident, prescription card and weekly income insurance to be covered for all full-time employees (32 hours or more a week) who have been employed for at least 90 days. Any other coverage will be paid for by the employee. Dependent coverage will be paid for by the employee. There will be an annual review of the insurance by Eikenberry's insurance agent, Chuck Hogan.

The district has only two employees and only Eikenberry is a full-time employee. Education coordinator Sue Studebaker is part-time.

Hogan will meet with Eikenberry on the costs of the coverage and later with the board.

In other business, Eikenberry said Earth Day, held at Central Park on April 22, was a success.

Also a success, she said, was Household Hazardous Waste Day May 12. More than 700 cars dropped off recyclables in a 4-1/2 hour period, a 28 percent increase over last year's participation.

The first check from Allied Waste was received. The check was for $45,000 for the Kosciusko County Highway Department and is part of the host agreement the landfill has with the district.

In recycling news, Eikenberry reported she received the recycling reports from Stafford Solid Waste Services for the first quarter. The reports showed they have recycled 50.7 tons of mixed paper during the first three months of 2000. This amount is approximately three tons more than was collected all last year at paper recycling days. Also, the three-month average of total tons collected is 128 tons per month, up from an average of 110 tons per month last year and 95 tons per month the year before.
