Waste Board Reviews 2011 Budget

Members of the Kosciusko County Solid Waste Board reviewed the 2011 budget for the KC Recycling Depot.

The budget increased $300 from the 2010 budget.

The 2010 budget was $366,180, while the 2011 is being proposed at $366,442.

Copies of the budget will go to the county council Sept. 9 to be reviewed.

The board also voted to keep money from a CD in another CD rather than put it in a business checking account or mutual funds.

The interest on the CD is currently .75 percent, according to Marsha McSherry, county auditor.

The board also discussed why it doesn't allow glass to be recycled.

Because of people leaving contaminated glass in with glass that can be recycled, it would cause the entire bin to be ruined.

Director Sue Studebaker said they do try and locate people who have left prohibited items at the recycling stations. There is a fine for people who leave trash and prohibited items at the site.
