Washington Chess Team is State Runner-Up

Teams from Warsaw Community Schools did well Saturday at the Scholastic Chess of Indiana Chess Team State Finals in Terre Haute, including one team earning state runner-up in its division.
A Warsaw middle school team placed third.
According to chess coach Jay Bolduc this morning, the third-grade and under chess team from Washington STEM Academy placed second at state finals. Team members are Nicholas Katris, Theodore Katris, Max Vinkemeier and Parker Bonifield.
The third-grade and under team from Madison placed fifth in their division. Team members are Claire Reichenbach, Trey Koontz, Khareus Miller and Subbu Muthiah.
Sixty teams competed in the third-grade and under division.
The Edgewood Middle School chess team placed third at state. Team members are Brandon Chan, Eric Harman, Nolan Knight and Jacob Lucas.
The Warsaw Community High School team placed ninth in its division. Team members are Samuel Bolduc, Kenneth Lightfoot, Just Stout and Trent Shepherd.
Thirty-two teams competed in the middle school division, and 32 teams competed in the high school division, according to Jay Bolduc.
The Washington sixth-grade and under team placed 12th, and the Lakeview Middle School team placed 13th in their respective divisions. Both had records close enough to be in the top 10 but missed out because of tie breaks.
According to Jay Bolduc, the other area finishes were: Madison B, third-grade and under, 23rd; Washington B, third-grade and under, 26th; Madison B, sixth-grade and under, 15th; Madison A, sixth-grade and under, 16th; and Lincoln Elementary, third-grade and under, 38th place.
Thirty-two teams competed in the sixth-grade and under division.
