Warsaw's Roads

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:
Warsaw is earning a reputation as the city of confusing and poorly designed intersections and traffic flow. Traffic engineers continue to design solutions to traffic flow that is worse than if left alone.

Parker Street and U.S. 30 intersection, East Center and Frontage Road and Old 30 at Fox Farm Road roundabout are examples of faulty solutions.

1.) U.S. 30 and Parker Street is now worse than ever when cars attempting to get to U.S. 30 must now go through a medical/commercial area that was never intended for the traffic now traveling Provident Drive. It is still a confusing intersection for traffic coming off U.S. 30. Drivers have further been restricted getting to U.S. 30 from the housing addition behind the BP station. What a mess!

2.) Frontage Road and East Center Street has been a confusing intersection and source of many accidents since we moved to Warsaw almost 40 years ago. Another mess!

3.) Now the powers that be have decided to create another monstrosity by installing a roundabout at Old 30 and Fox Farm Road. I have yet to talk to a single individual who likes roundabouts. They are confusing to many drivers, take up a lot of space and are difficult to negotiate for large vehicles. What a waste of money and another traffic hazard and mess for Warsaw!    A traffic light would have been much cheaper and less confusing for all vehicles and drivers. Traffic engineers must be like fashion designers trying to cash in on a fad.

4.) Shopping centers at Frontage Road along U.S. 30 at Kmart Shopping Center and U.S. 30 at Marathon/Staples exit are additional examples of poorly designed and dangerous traffic designs.

Quit adding to traffic congestion by creating problems instead of solutions. If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it! Drivers are getting fed up with feeble attempts and faulty intersections around town.  Common sense seems to be in short supply.
