Warsaw's proposed building program

Posted

• $13.165 million to build a new three-section (three classrooms per grade) Atwood Elementary School in Prairie Township to replace the current Atwood Elementary; the new school would have a capacity of 450 students and would include students from Atwood, and draw students from Leesburg and Harrison elementaries.

• $9.03 million to remodel Claypool Elementary to a three-section school with a capacity for 450 students, which would include all the students from Silver Lake Elementary and some from Eisenhower and Jefferson elementaries after redistricting.

• $7.515 million to add a 1,200-seat auditorium to Warsaw Community High School.

• $5.28 million for a stadium and track at WCHS, including locker room space and toilet facilities for participants, seating, lighting, restrooms, concessions and storage.

• $1.91 million for a weight and wrestling room at WCHS.

• $3.55 million for additional outdoor improvements at WCHS, including relocating softball, soccer and football practice fields; building a band practice area; building soccer concession and restroom areas; and putting in a connecting drive.

The proposed improvements also include an estimated cost of $6.35 million for a performing arts center at WCHS and the proposal suggests that this financing be raised from private sources and not from school corporation funds.
