COLDWATER, Mich. — Marcella “Chella” Brito, a sophomore at Warsaw Community High School, lost a close boxing decision to Saturday in Coldwater, Mich. Brito and her opponent McKenzie Lindland, of Clayton, Mich., exchanged several jabs and hard right hands. Utilizing her reach, the heavier Lindland was far more aggressive than Brito. However, in the final round, Brito picked up the intensity and repeatedly pressured Lindland against the ropes and pummeled the body and head. “She got it in gear a little too late,” Brito’s trainer Boppin’ Bob Firari said. “If Marcella had the fought the first two rounds the way she did in the third, she would’ve won. On the positive side, she didn’t come away from the experience by sulking around or making up a bunch of excuses. She knows she could have done better and she’s prepared to get back in the gym to start working on improvements. Chella’s got a great work ethic and she’s coachable. She’ll be a champion boxer some day due to those attributes.” Brito represents Soldiers Boxing and trains at The Absolute Fitness Academy, 2307 E. Center St., Warsaw.
