Warsaw's Five-Game NLC Victory Leads Roundup

Going all five games, the Warsaw volleyball team got a much-needed home win over Plymouth Thursday night.
Winning in five (25-11, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11), the Warsaw Lady Tigers now sit at 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference, while Plymouth drops to 1-2 in the NLC.
In the highly-contested match, Warsaw had a balanced scoring attack, as junior Katie Voelz led the team with 25 kills, while seniors Emily Poe and Laura Craig had 16 and 12, respectively.
Junior Megan Chauncey set up most of those kills, recording 60 assists.
Defensively, Voelz had five blocks, and Poe and Craig each had 18 digs, followed by junior Celia Heckert’s 15.
Warsaw will be at Saturday’s Michigan City Invitational.

Hosting the Class 2A No. 5 Southwood volleyball team Thursday, the Whitko Lady Wildcats fell in three games, 25-10, 25-16, 25-17. Elaine Warner led Whitko with eight assists and Maddie Gawthrop posted four kills. The Lady Wildcats will take part in Saturday’s Wawasee Invitational.

Following Thursday night’s match at Concord, the Wawasee volleyball team is still looking for its first Northern Lakes Conference victory. Losing in four tight games (27-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22), the Lady Warriors now sit at 11-6 overall and 0-3 in the NLC. In the loss, Alli Ousley had 29 assists, 21 digs, six kills and five aces, while Meghan Fretz posted four blocks. Wawasee hosts its own invitational Saturday.

Leading 4-0 at the half, the DeKalb Lady Barons continued to pour it on in the second half, defeating the visiting Wawasee girls soccer team 10-0 Thursday night. The 0-11 Wawasee Lady Warriors are in Northern Lakes Conference competition Tuesday at 18th-ranked Northridge.

Waiting out the rain Thursday, the Warsaw Tigers boys tennis team took to the courts and defeated Northern Lakes Conference foe NorthWood, 5-0. The win is Warsaw’s 13th-straight in NLC competition, and it will look to wrap up back-to-back undefeated conference seasons Monday at home against Concord. Against NorthWood, Warsaw’s Sam Rice won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Warsaw’s No. 1 doubles team of Will Petro and Nikos Schlitt won 6-3, 6-2.
