Warsaw’s Fisher Field Officially DedicatedThe new artificial turf at Warsaw Community High School’s Fisher Field at the Tiger Athletic Complex was officially dedicated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony before the football scrimmage with Tippecanoe Valley Friday night.
The new track will be installed in plenty of time for the spring season.
In a pregame ceremony before the Warsaw boys varsity basketball game against Northern Lakes Conference rival Plymouth Feb. 12, Warsaw Community Schools and Lutheran Health Network/Kosciusko Community Hospital announced a 10-year, $1 million partnership. In turn, the school corporation board approved bonds to finance the turf, using the money from the gift to finance the turf and track resurfacing.
“Friday night’s event is a celebration of this joint school/community project,” said a statement released by the school corporation. “WCS will showcase the field, which is a benefit to many student and community groups and have also started a track renovation in coordination with the turf project.”
Among the school groups participating in the pre-scrimmage ceremony were the Warsaw Tiger Color Guard, the Tiger Pride Marching Band and the Junior ROTC. Cheerleaders, football and track athletes and several dignitaries from the community participated in the on-field ceremony.
When the project was announced, the corporation said the field would be available for band practice, physical education classes and youth sports, among others.
The first football game to be played on the new turf at Fisher Field will be a junior varsity contest with Columbia City at 10 a.m. Aug. 20. The first varsity football game on the new surface will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 when the Tigers host East Noble.
The first meet to be held on the new track is scheduled for March 22, when the Lady Tigers will host Penn and South Bend Washington. The first boys track meet of the spring will be the following day when the Tigers host East Noble and Fort Wayne Snider.
