A request by Kim Cox to add two additional structures to his 48.5-acre property was approved Monday night by the Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals.
The Cox land, at 1875 W. Winona Ave., is zoned R-2 and used for agriculture.
Originally part of a family farm, Cox has stabled horses there since 1999. He crop- farms about half the property. One of the additional buildings will shelter horses in the pasture. The other will be a 3,840- square-foot addition to the existing barn.
The zoning regulation allows for one accessory structure per lot, not to exceed 720 square feet.
Robert Brown, of God's Highway to Heaven Church, approached the board with a variance from developmental standards - a 4-foot side yard setback instead of 25 feet for a building addition - which was also granted by the board.
This is the second time the pastor has appeared before the BZA. The first time was in July, when he introduced plans to build a 40-foot by 80-foot building at 555 Webber St. beside the church.
The building size has also increased to 50 feet by 84 feet. Brown said 20 to 30 more people now attend the church.
The board also continued a variance request by Brian Elliott, 937 Country Club Lane, for an 8-foot rear yard setback for an attached carport.
Board of Zoning Appeals members are Dan Hampton, Richard Keeven, Tom Heuer, Alan Clingan and Trish Brown. Bruce Woodward was absent.
