Warsaw X-C Teams Lead Roundup With Huntington Invite Performances

The boys and girls Warsaw cross country teams each finished second at Saturday’s Huntington North Invitational.
For the boys, No. 4 Carroll won the event with 38 points, with No. 6 Warsaw finishing second with 52.
The second-ranked Carroll Lady Chargers won the girls race with 38 points, followed Warsaw’s 86.
In the girls race, Warsaw senior Ashley Erba took first place, winning in 17:30, breaking her own record by 64 seconds.
Sarah Ray also finished in the top 10 for the Lady Tigers, placing eighth in a time of 19:22.
Warsaw senior Jacob Poyner finished second in the boys race in 15:57, with Ellis Coon taking third (16:08) and Robert Murphy in fourth (16:10).
The Warsaw girls travel to Saturday’s DeKalb Baron Classic while the boys next meet is Aug. 28 at Grace College’s Miller Field for the Tiger Invitational.

Saturday in Fort Wayne
The 18th-ranked Warsaw girls golf team finished second at Saturday’s New Haven Invitational at Fort Wayne’s McMillen Golf Course. Top-ranked Yorktown won the tournament with a 321, while Warsaw shot a 368. Alexis Manwaring was Warsaw’s top player, shooting an 88 to finish ninth individually. The Lady Tigers open Northern Lakes Conference play Tuesday, traveling to Middlebury’s Bent Oak Golf Club to take on Northridge and Concord.

Saturday in Fort Wayne
Playing at IPFW’s Hefner Fields for the Fort Wayne Snider Invitational, the Warsaw Lady Tigers went 2-0 Saturday. In the opening game against Fort Wayne Concordia, the Lady Tigers got goals from Meredith Hollar and Gabby Monroy in a 2-0 victory. Taking on the DeKalb in the second game, Hollar found the back of the net once again, followed by goals from Kelly Williams and Sandra Granda in a 3-0 victory. The 3-0 Lady Tigers travel to Plymouth Tuesday to open up Northern Lakes Conference play.

The Warsaw volleyball team began its 2012 campaign with a 3-1 effort at Saturday’s Lafayette Jefferson Invitational. On the day, Warsaw defeated Morristown, Milan and McCutcheon, but fell to Lafayette Jefferson. Jamie Lacheta led the Lady Tigers with 38 kills, 14 digs and eight aces, while Katie Voelz and Emily Poe each added 14 kills. The 3-1 Lady Tigers travel to Mishawaka Marian today then takes on Northfield Tuesday at home.
