Warsaw Wins Swim Sectional, Sending Seven To Indy

Posted
Warsaw won its ninth-straight boys swimming sectional title Saturday afternoon, and will send seven athletes to the state meet in Indianapolis, which opens  Friday. The Tigers won six different events to outdistance second-place Culver Academies 496-349.
Tippecanoe Valley placed 10th in the meet, and Manchester was 11th.
Four Tiger seniors won individual titles; Ethan Cook was first in the 50 freestyle, and Zach Taylor won the 100 backstroke. Matt Wildman was the sectional title winner in the 100 breaststroke and Tyler Paseka won the diving competition.
The 200 freestyle relay team of seniors Ethan Cook, Adam Doyle, Matt Wildman and freshman Alex Cook won handily, beating the Columbia City team by just over three seconds. The 400 freestyle relay team of Ethan Cook, Wildman, junior Hudson Snyder and sophomore Evan Borchers set a new sectional record to advance to Indy.
“Great swimming and diving today. The seniors had a great finish to their final sectionals.  It will be difficult replacing them,” said Tiger head coach Tony DeBrota. “Zach Taylor had a great 100 back time. Hudson Snyder performed well in his events too.  We've got seven guys swimming at state next week. There will be a heavy push to keep mentally strong next week and to maintain a high degree of focus.”
The swimming preliminaries will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the IUPUI Natatorium. The diving finals will be at 9 a.m. Saturday with the swim finals beginning at 1 p.m.
