Saturday in Decatur
After falling behind by a goal early, Warsaw responded with three goals from Mariah Rivera in a 4-1 win over Bellmont.
“(Saturday’s) victory didn’t follow a traditional route,” said Lady Tiger head coach Peter Lucht via e-mail. “We started a little slow off the bus, but a wake-up call came in the ninth minute. One of Bellmont’s best players was able to score off a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. If they weren’t ready off the bus, that goal certainly drove across the point that Bellmont wasn’t going to simply give the game away.”
Rivera scored the first of her goals 12 minutes later, and the second one in the following minute. Rivera and freshman Anna Grill both had second-half goals, completing the hat trick for Rivera and giving Grill her first career varsity goal.
