GOSHEN – A trip to the Maple City turned out to be sweet for Warsaw’s boys track and field team. After winning the Goshen Sectional championship by 12 points last season, the Tigers left no doubt Thursday in racking up 147 points en route to their sixth consecutive title and 27th overall. Goshen finished second in the team standings with 104.5 points, followed in the top five by NorthWood (91), Fairfield (64) and Elkhart Central (49). Columbia City was sixth with 45.5 points, followed by Northridge (45), Elkhart Christian Academy (18), Concord (17), Jimtown (15), Elkhart Memorial (15) and Wawasee (13). The top three finishers in each event advance to Tuesday’s Warsaw Regional, joining qualifiers from sectionals at Bremen, Kokomo and South Bend St. Joe. The Tigers won four events Thursday and advanced to the regional in 13 of the 16 events. Individual winners for Warsaw included Owen Glogovsky (1600), Lucas Cone (pole vault) and Ross Armey (300 hurdles). Armey also teamed up with Rane Kilburn, Will McGarvey and Brandon Reinholt to win the 4x100. Wawasee’s best finish of the evening was a fourth-place effort by Cole Vanlue in the 100. There was one sectional record broken in the meet, as Columbia City’s Andrew McFarland won the 400 in a time of 48.34 seconds. The previous record of 48.9 seconds was set in 2008 by Wawasee’s Eric Brown.
