The Warsaw Tigers won just two of the 16 events Thursday, but scored enough points to win their third boys track and field regional championship in four years. The Tigers, who hosted the meet, got a win from senior Ross Armey in the 300 hurdles (38.83 seconds) and from the 4x100 relay team of Armey, classmate Brandon Reinholt and juniors Rane Kilburn and Will McGarvey (42.87). A total of 32 teams scored at least one point in the meet. Warsaw led the way with 57.5 points, which was enough to hold off fellow Northern Lakes Conference Schools Goshen and NorthWood, who tied for second with 52 points. South Bend St. Joe (49), Fairfield (38), South Bend Adams (30), Rochester (28), Whitko (25) and Northridge (25) rounded out the top 10 teams. Manchester tied for 22nd with five points, while Triton tied for 30th with two points. The top three individuals or teams in each event Thursday qualified for the state meet, which will be held June 4 at Indiana University in Bloomington. Other Warsaw competitors who qualified for the state meet were seniors Owen Glogovsky and Thomas Hickerson. Glogovsky finished second in the 1,600 with a time of 4:17.89. Hickerson finished second in the long jump with a leap of 20-11. Whitko will be represented in Bloomington by senior Walker Hobbs and junior Alex Morales. Hobbs finished third in the shot put with a distance of 51-5.25, while Morales was third in the 110 hurdles with a school-record time of 14.98 seconds. Whitko juniors Conner Sherwin and Gavin Howard just missed qualifying for state with fourth-place finishes in discus and shot put, respectively. Manchester sophomore Thomas Rohr finished fourth in the 3,200 in 9:38.54, missing out on a state finals berth by two seconds. Warsaw senior Lucas Cone finished fourth in the pole vault competition, and missed out on a state finals berth based on number of attempts.
