Warsaw Wins 10th Straight Sectional TitleWarsaw continued its dominance at the boys swimming sectional, winning its 10th straight title Saturday at the meet hosted by the Tigers. Warsaw’s 467 points easily outdistanced Culver Academies’ 331 and Rochester’s 265. Tippecanoe Valley was sixth with 168 points, and Manchester finished 12th with 48 points. The Tigers used its depth to win the title. Grant Knight was the only individual winner for the hosts, taking the 100 breaststroke. Warsaw also won all three relay races. The Tigers produced a number of top-five finishes. Alex Cook was second in the 50 and 100 freestyles, Hudson Snyder was second in the 200 and 500 freestyles, and Nick Zogbi was second in the 100 backstroke. Evan Borchers was third in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Ian Deming was third in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 fly. Cameron Bowell was third in the diving, and Nick Bazzoni was fourth in the 100 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 IM. Matt Hastings was fourth in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 500 free, and Zach LaLonde was fifth in the 50 free and 100 backstroke. Jacob LaLonde was fifth in the 100 freestyle and eighth in the 200 free. Warsaw coach Anthony DeBrota said he’d like to hang a special banner commemorating the accomplishment. “Even talking with (athletic director) Dave Anson, we want to get a banner so that these kids can remember that. I was telling them before that it’s a special feat (winning 10 sectionals in a row). I think it just stands out; one decade. I told them a lot of them can continue to be a part of that for many years. “We’ve got a kid that’s in sixth grade that said he couldn’t wait to be a part of that tradition. And these guys understand how important and how special this is.” DeBrota said the idea now is to translate the sectional success into a solid run at the state meet that begins at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis on Friday. “I told them it’s great to see our sectionals getting faster, but we also need to make sure we’re prepared for state,” he said. “Even if it’s nine years, 10 years, we want to have a strong presence at sectionals and then continue that at state. Hopefully this weekend they’ll be focused on that.” Chase Brower will represent Valley at the state meet after he won the 50 freestyle. He also took third in the 100 freestyle. Travis Shull and Zach Hodge were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the diving competition. Dakota Prater won consolation races in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly for Valley. Daniel Alexander was 10th in the 100 fly and 12th in the 500 freestyle. Jacob Wagner was 10th in the 500 free and 14th in the 200 free. Manchester’s Parker York was 10th in the 200 IM, and Ben Green was 12th in the 100 backstroke and 15th in the 200 IM. Concord Sectional Wawasee’s Brady Robinson will represent the Warriors at the state meet after his third-place time of 1:52.54 in the 200 IM made the state cut. Robinson also took second in the 100 butterfly. Wawasee finished fourth in the team standings. Jared Krugman was fourth in the 200 free and fifth in the 500 free for the Warriors. Austin Dunithan, Dane Jenkins and Brady Classen took fifth, sixth and 10th in diving.
