Warsaw, Wawasee Swim Teams Impress At Sectionals

The Warsaw girls swim team hosted its own sectional prelims Thursday and advanced to Saturday’s finals in every event.
At the prelims, the top eight competitors advance to Saturday’s championship heat of the finals, while those placing ninth to 16th take part in the consolation heat.
Diving prelims get under way at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by the swim and diving finals at 1 p.m.
During prelims, Warsaw’s 200 medley relay (Malorie Rheinhardt, Ashley Van Wormer, Jessica Sweatland, Margot Rheinhardt) and 200 free relay (Mar. Rheinhardt, Sweatland, Erin Sandberg, Meghan Boston) each finished first, as did Cynthia Juarez in the 500 free, and Ashley Van Wormer in the 100 breast.
Tippecanoe Valley’s Katelyn Gunter qualified for the championship heat of the 100 fly by finishing eighth, while the Lady Vikings’ 200 free relay of Ericka Webb, Sara Jones, Joy Hurd and Gunter finished seventh.
Manchester’s 200 medley relay of Rachel Brandenburg, Elena Schneiders, Andrea Roesner and Jordan Michel will also be in the championship heat with a seventh-place finish.

The 15th-ranked Wawasee girls swim team will be represented in every championship heat at Saturday’s Northridge Sectional finals. Swimming prelims Thursday, the Wawasee Lady Warriors finished in the top eight in each event, led by Bre Robinson, who won the 200 free in a state-cut time of 1:53.96 and 100 fly. Also for Wawasee, Kendra Miller (50 free) and Elizabeth Rozow (100 back) posted wins, as did its 200 free relay (Mikala Mawhorter, Miller, Kayla Hershberger, Robinson) and 400 free relay (Hershberger, Miller, Robinson, Hannah Winters). Diving prelims begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Northridge, followed by swimming and diving finals at 1 p.m.
