SYRACUSE — The Wawasee gymnastics team came one place shy of advancing out of Saturday’s sectional. Hosting the sectional, Wawasee was fourth with 98.025, while Angola won with 106.175, followed by Plymouth (100.925) and DeKalb (99.850), rounding out the top three. The Warsaw Lady Tigers finished seventh (93.25) and Tippecanoe Valley was 11th (26.55). Angola, Plymouth and Angola all advance to Saturday’s Valparaiso Regional, as do the top six competitors in each event. Among the advancing individuals is Wawasee senior Kim Garber, who placed fifth with an 8.8 for her floor exercise. Also from Wawasee, sophomore Taylor Busse was ninth in the all-around, finishing eighth on beam (8.625), 10th on bars (8.075), 18th on floor (7.9) and 21st on vault, while junior Emily Allen was 11th, placing seventh on beam (8.675), 16th on floor (8.05) and vault (8.75) and 18th on bars (7.15). Warsaw’s top performer was junior Abbi Baum, who finished 13th in the all-around (34.425), placing eighth on bars (8.125), 14th on floor (8.15) and vault (8.8) and 19th on beam (7.35).
