Warsaw, Triton Strong At Tournaments

Posted
DUNLAP – The Warsaw boys tennis team’s chances at its first Northern Lakes Conference title since 2006 are looking pretty good.
After finishing the NLC regular season at 7-0, the Warsaw Tigers now have four courts going for individual championships at the conference tournament.
Playing at Concord, Warsaw’s Evan Miller (No. 2 singles), Alek Jansen (No. 3 singles), as well as the No. 1 doubles team of AJ Herendeen and Sam Rice and the No. 2 doubles team of Will Petro and Connor Singrey will be in Saturday’s finals.
The finals will be back at Concord at 9 a.m. Saturday, and with Warsaw guaranteed at least a second-place finish on four courts, it’ll have enough points to claim the overall title.
Concord finished second to Warsaw in the regular season, but has just its No. 1 doubles team playing for a title Saturday, while three others will play for a third-place finish and another going for fifth.
The only real threat to Warsaw at the conference tournament is Plymouth, who will be playing in the championship match on three courts, and third place on another.
But even if Plymouth did finish first at the conference tournament, its third-place finish in the regular season leaves the Pilgrims too far out in points to stop the Tigers from winning the overall title.
