Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission reviewed a request for a stop sign and speed limit reduction during Wednesday morning’s meeting. The commission reviewed the request from Patt Hygema for a stop sign at the intersection of South West Point Drive and West Baker Street in Eisenhower Park. Commission member Kip Shuter made a motion to deny the request for the stop sign, and commission member Steve Foster seconded the motion. Shuter said a traffic signal is not recommended by the Uniform on Traffic Control Devices to use a stop sign to control speed for traffic. The commission will have Warsaw Police Department further patrol the area to see if a reduction in speed is needed at the intersection. The commission also reviewed a request from Ron Prater for a speed limit reduction at LaVista Drive. The current speed limit is 30 miles per hour. Shuter said Prater called the mayor’s office requesting the speed reduction. Shuter said WPD Lt. Steve Rockey has patrolled the area, and there have not been issues with speed since. Shuter made a motion to deny the speed limit reduction request, and commission member Jerry Patterson seconded the request. In other business, Warsaw street superintendent Lacy Francis said milling work will begin Monday on East Center Street. Work will begin at White’s Hill where milling work also will be done by the Parker and Argonne intersection. The project will include milling and then paving work. East Center Street will be milled and paved from Hickory Street at the railroad tracks, and go back east to the intersection of Parker and Argonne and down to East Lake Street. Francis said two lanes of traffic will be open at all times during the milling and paving work.
