KOKOMO — It took two days, but when it was all said and done, the Warsaw boys track and field team had won its third ever regional title and first since 1984. Because of weather Thursday, official results from the Kokomo Regional couldn’t be released until the pole vault competition was completed Friday. Once the competition was completed, Warsaw edged out the home team with 58 points, while Kokomo scored 57. In the team victory, Warsaw advanced to the state finals in four events. To qualify for state, a competitor must finish in the top three at the regional level. For Warsaw, competitors at Friday’s state meet at Indiana University will be the 3200 relay (Scott Smyth, Trevor Callahan, Jacob Poyner, Spencer Rheinhardt), Spencer Rheinhardt (800), Stephen Kolbe (high jump) and the 1600 relay (Chad Goon, Ryan Goon, Wyatt Jones, Spencer Rheinhardt). Of those finishers, the 3200 relay finished first, while Kolbe finished second to Wawasee’s Ben Klaybor in the high jump. Klaybor and Kolbe each cleared 6-4 at the meet, but Klaybor had less misses. Other local competitors to advance out of the regional were Wawasee’s Nathan Cook (110 hurdles) and Manchester’s Kegan McNeeley (100). At the Fort Wayne Wayne Regional, Whitko’s 3200 relay (Jude Stieglitz, Brody Wilson, Brian Menzie, Trapper mize)) also advanced to the state meet with a team of 8:09.60.
