Warsaw Tiger Golfers Cruise To Win Over Valley

Posted

Despite the fact that his Tippecanoe Valley varsity girls golfers lost 188-239 to Warsaw Monday at Rozella Ford, Viking coach Roger Moriarty said he was pleased just to be on that course.

"The first nice thing was getting to play at Rozella," said Moriarty. "It's our sectional course. It's an advantage for the girls to play here. The thing about coach (Bob) Turner is, he runs an excellent program at Warsaw. Any time their No. 5 player shoots a 49, it's going to be tough."

Wabash also competed yesterday and finished third with a 249. Kerri Wrobel led the Tigers with a 44. Warsaw had four players shoot 49 or lower, while the Vikings' best score was a 51 by Kendra Koser. Valley's other four varsity scores were between 61 and 74.

"I think our girls are a little intimidated by Warsaw," said Moriarty. "They need to take a look and watch and learn."

Valley was playing without two girls from its varsity lineup and had to replace them with girls who had little or no varsity experience.

Warsaw came away from the match with a 4-1 record, while the Vikings dropped to 3-8.

"Part of it is it shows we didn't play enough in the summer to be ready for competition," said Moriarty. "We're going to have to go to work and improve."

While Moriarty said he thought his Vikings would be better at this point in the season, Turner said his Tigers are near where he expected them to be.

"Our record is about what I thought it would be," said Turner. "We let Columbia City slip away. Kerri Wrobel has been a consistent leader for us. We had four girls shoot in the 40s today. We should have five girls in the 40s. Our depth always helps us."

Warsaw (4-1) will host Whitko today at 4:30 p.m. Valley tees off at 10 a.m. today with Knox and NorthWood at Mill Creek Golf Course in Rochester, its first home match of the season.
