AKRON -ÊAlthough Wednesday night marked the first swim meet after a two-week break for both Tippecanoe Valley and Warsaw high schools, it was not the first time the swimmers had been in the pool.
"We worked really hard over the break," said Warsaw coach Terry Aukeman. "Overall we swam really well."
Both Tiger teams kept their perfect records unmarred by defeating the Vikings. The girls picked up a 132-44 win, while the boys earned a 132-48 victory.
On the boys' side of the action, Nates dominated the action. Nate Long won the 100 butterfly in 1:02.48, while Nate Taylor placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.30.
Long was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay team, along with Michael Thallemer, Chris Schenkel and Steven Lowrance; the 200 freestyle relay team with Ryan Munsch, Taylor and Thallemer; and 400 freestyle relay team with Josh Stork, Lowrance and Thallemer.
In all, Warsaw picked up 10 first-place finishes in 12 overall events. Thad Wallin won both the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. Kyle Munsch, Thad Wallin, Ryan Munsch and Chris Martz picked up wins for Warsaw as well.
Matt Eby was the star in the pool for Valley. Eby picked up wins in the 50 freestyle and the one meter diving events.
The win improves Warsaw's record to 8-0 overall. The Tigers are 5-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference and will host Concord Saturday.
On the girls side of the action, Warsaw won 9 of 12 events. The Tigers picked up wins in two relays, the 200 medley relay (with team members Alllison Cook, Shelby Petro, Aislinn Ummel and Becca Noggle) and the 400 freestyle relay (made up of Melissa Dick, Andrea Heyde, Lindsay Munsch and Becca Noggle).
Munsch, Claire Beckett, Tara Stayer, Ummell, Noggle, Elisabeth Helfrich and Amanda Brown picked up wins for the Tigers.
Valley's Elyse Boggs was the star of the night, winning two individual events and leading her team to a win in the 200 freestyle relay. Boggs swam the 200 freestyle in 2:09.35, and finished the 500 freestyle in 5:47.37. Her time in both events topped all competitors on the night, including the boys.
Boggs also had a part in Valley's first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. She joined forces with Valerie Drudge, Erin Weaver and Amanda Warren to finish the relay in 1:56.84.
The win moves the Tiger girls' record to 9-0 overall. They are 5-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference and will host Concord Saturday.
The Vikings are struggling with numbers this season. The girls team filled only one lane in 11 of the 12 events. The Vikings did not field a team in the 200 medley relay.
"Valley has been a very good team in the past, but their numbers are down right now," said Aukeman. "I wish they had more swimmers so they would be able to compete better. That's tough for them, but they will improve."
