Warsaw Summer Construction Projects Listed

Posted
Three major construction projects in Warsaw are taking place this summer.
Detroit Street Water Main Project
Work began in April on a major water main replacement project.
The project will replace two existing water mains with a new 16-inch water main.
The main replacement project is part of a $25 million infrastructure project in Warsaw that will enhance water quality, improve system reliability and enable the company to continue to meet the needs of its Warsaw customers.
The project will replace approximately 2,400 feet of water main under Detroit Street north of Fort Wayne Street and will involve lane closure and traffic restrictions on the busy stretch of roadway through mid-summer 2011.
Once the water main installation is completed and is placed in service by the end of July, crews will be replacing the excavated lanes of Detroit Street with new concrete pavement that will be reopened to traffic by the end of August 2011.
Center Street Repaving Project
Warsaw will be repaving Center Street from Hickory Street near the railroad at the center of town to U.S. 30 and East Lake Street.
Today construction signs and barricades will be placed along Center Street and streets intersecting Center Street.
On Thursday and Friday the street approaches to Center Street will be milled. This will cause short term closures to the streets being milled and short term traffic delays on Center Street as the milling machine and cleanup crews work near the Center Street travel lanes. Drivers are advised to be prepared to stop. On Friday there also will be asphalt patching between Argonne Road and U.S. 30 on Center Street.
The work will require the lane next to the curb to be closed while asphalt is removed and replaced. At the end of the day all lanes will be open.
On June 13 and 14 Center Streets east bound travel lane will be removed and replaced with new asphalt. Traffic from the travel lane will be shifted to the Center Street turn lane.
During this phase the west bound traffic (traffic driving toward downtown) will not be allowed to make left turns except at streets with signal lights at Parker Street and Roosevelt Street. Streets with signal lights are Scott, Bronson, Lincoln, Harrison, and Cleveland streets.
On June 15 and 16 Center Street’s west bound travel lane will be removed and replaced with new asphalt. Traffic from the travel lane will be shifted to the Center Street turn lane.
During this phase the east bound traffic (traffic driving toward U.S. 30) will not be allowed to make left turns except at the streets with signal lights and at Parker Street and Roosevelt Street.
West bound traffic (traffic driving downtown) will not be allowed to turn right except at streets with signal lights and at Parker Street and Roosevelt Street. Streets with signal lights are Scott, Bronson, Lincoln, Harrison, and Cleveland Streets.
On June 17 the middle lane of Center Street will be milled. Traffic may cross the milled area once the construction crews are clear of the immediate area.
On June 20-24 the final asphalt surface will be placed on Center Street and the street approaches to Center Street. During the phase traffic should be prepared for short term pauses and lane shifts.
Lane striping will be performed as soon as paving is complete the week of June 27.
CR 100S Construction
Intersection improvement of Ind. 15 (Fisher Avenue) and CR 100S (Rozella Road), south of Warsaw, will begin today.
The construction at the intersection will improve the left-turn lanes, adding new left-turn lanes, adding new curb and gutter, improving the drainage, asphalt resurfacing and updating the traffic signal.
During the construction phase, traffic will be restricted to travel lanes on Ind. 15 with intermittent stopped traffic during the placement of new cross pipes for improved drainage.
There will not be designated turn lanes during construction phases one and two or a paved shoulder much wider than two feet.
In the coming weeks, Rozella Road will be closed from Logan Street to Ind. 15 for roadway widening and curb and gutter construction.
During the closure, local traffic will be detoured using Logan Street. During phase one of thesouthbound turn lane and roadway widening will be constructed along the west side of Ind. 15 and new curb and gutter added.
After phase one is completed, milling of the existing surface on Ind. 15 and CR 100S will take place, followed by an asphalt wedge and level course.
During phase two, there will be construction of new curb and gutter, the north bound turn lane and roadway widening will be constructed along the east side of Ind. 15.
The Fruitridge Drive approach, across Ind. 15 from Rozella Road, also will be improved.
The final phase will be to asphalt resurface the entire construction zone. All construction is expected to be completed by Aug. 12.
When Rozella Road is closed, local traffic will use Logan Street to access CR 100S.
