Warsaw Students, Teacher Participate In National Competition

Nine high school students from the Warsaw Area Career Center chapter of Business Professionals of America participated in the organization’s National Leadership Conference May 3-8 in Washington, D.C.
Approximately 5,500 students and advisors from throughout the United States participated in BPA’s 45th conference. Activities included general sessions with keynote speakers, business meetings, leadership workshops, contests, election of national officers and tours. The opening general session took place May 4 on the Washington Monument lawn.
One Warsaw student, senior Antonio Mantey, was elected the 2011-12 Indiana State President. Therefore, he was asked to represent Indiana as one of the voting delegates for the national officer elections.
During the conference, awards were presented for the national contests. The WACC students participated in these events after qualifying by placing in the very top of their events at the state level.
Winners were: Karla Batres, graphic design promotion; Trevor Callahan, Derek Huffer, Sam Richardson, network design team; Alek Jansen, entrepreneurship; Jeremy Meadows, banking and finance; Tyler Ostrom, advanced accounting; Matthew Reinholt, advanced accounting; and Sam Richardson, computer network technology.
A small percentage of BPA members compete and win at the district then state levels, and are able to move on to national level competition.
Receiving ranking were: Alek Jansen, entrepreneurship, third in nation; Sam Richardson, computer network technology, fourth; Jeremy Meadows, banking and finance, seventh; Trevor Callahan, Derek Huffer, Sam Richardson, network design team, ninth; and Tyler Ostrom, advanced accounting, 10th.
