Warsaw Student Caught With Gun

Posted

A 12-year-old Warsaw boy is being held in the Kosciusko County Juvenile Shelter after being caught with a handgun at school.

The youth is charged with carrying a handgun without a license on school property, a Class C felony.

According to a Warsaw Police Department report, another student tipped off a teacher that the boy might be in possession of a gun at Madison Elementary School on North Union Street.

The boy at first denied having a gun, but when the teacher made him empty his jacket pockets, the outline of the gun could reportedly be seen inside an inner pocket. The boy then said the gun was his sister's and she left it in his pocket.

The two-shot derringer was confiscated. The police report did not indicate whether the weapon was loaded.

It is believed the boy brought the gun to school to show off in front of his friends.
