Warsaw Splits With Goshen

Warsaw's boys swim team won a home meet with Goshen Saturday, but Warsaw's girls lost.

Warsaw won the boys meet 106.5-75.5. Warsaw took control early, taking two of the top three places in the first five events to go up 46-29.

Warsaw finished with five first places. Nick Leininger (200 freestyle), Justin Lowrance (50 freestyle), Kevin Cowan (diving) and Brian Smith (100 breaststroke) placed first, as did Warsaw's 400 freestyle relay team of Justin Van Laeken, Adam Helfrich, Jed Wandland and Leininger.

In the girls meet, Goshen placed first and second in two of the first three events to go up 32-14, and Warsaw never recovered. Hillary Barlow had Warsaw's only first place, in the 100 butterfly.

Both Warsaw teams host Plymouth at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Homestead Wins Wawasee Invitational

At North Webster, Homestead's girls swim team dismantled the competition in Saturday's Wawasee Invitational. Homestead won with 437 points and was followed by South Bend St. Joseph's with 331 and Wawasee with 235.

Homestead placed first in eight of 13 events and set pool records in two events. Homestead's time of 1:53.15 in the 200 medley relay set a pool record, as did the Spartans' time of 3:42.88 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Jaime Conn turned in Wawasee's top performance, placing second in diving.

Tippecanoe Valley placed sixth out of eight teams with 95 points. Valley's 400 freestyle relay team of Hillary Vanlaningham, Kyleigh Gast, Amber Drudge and Eve Boggs placed fourth with a time of 4:01.29, good for a school record.

Boggs also placed fourth in the 500 freestyle and sixth in the 200 freestyle. Her time of 2:07.05 in the 200 set a school record.

The Vikings also set a school record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:04.66. The swimmers were the same four as those in the 400 freestyle relay. Valley placed sixth in the 200 medley relay.
