Warsaw Softball Team Falls At Mishawaka In Season Opener

MISHAWAKA — The Warsaw softball team opened its season with a 15-5, five-inning loss at Mishawaka Wednesday night. Warsaw began the game with five runs in the top of the first, but struggled to keep up with the Mishawaka offense after that and couldn’t solve Mishawaka hurler Nichole Linner. Offensively, Kaleigh Speicher had two doubles for the Lady Tigers and Sidney Hernandez had a three-run homer in the first inning. The Lady Tigers are off for Spring Break and won’t be back in action until April 15 at East Noble. MISHAWAKA 15, WARSAW 5 (5 innings) W 500 00 – 5 M 412 08 – 15 Mishawaka – Nichole Linner (W, 5IP). Tuesday in Akron Opening its season at home against Maconaquah Tuesday, the Tippecanoe Valley softball team lost 14-2. Offensively, Robyn Dunnuck had a triple and an RBI, while also scoring a run. The 0-1 Lady Vikings are on a break until they host Triton, April 14. BOYS TRACK AND FIELD Tuesday in Wabash At Wabash High School Tuesday, the Whitko boys track and field team suffered a narrow 68.5-63.5 loss to the host Apaches. In the loss, Whitko won all five field events, including Walker Hobbs (shot put, 41-10), Zach Hewitt (discus, 119-10.5), Brady Herendeen (long jump, 18-0), Blake Sapp (high jump, 5-8) and Jacob Helton (pole vault, 9-0). On the track, Dillon Alma got the Wildcats’ lone victory, finishing first in the 800 with a time of 2:28.1. Up next for Whitko is April 17’s meet at Rochester.
