Warsaw Rotary Holds 98th Rotary Toy Day For Salvation Army

Posted

The Warsaw Rotary Club met on Friday and collected toys for the Angel Tree program of The Salvation Army.
Rotary Toy Day has been a club tradition since 1927 so this marks the 98th year of collecting toys to support the Christmas outreach of the Army in Kosciusko County.  The Warsaw Rotary Club met at the Hotel Hays in Warsaw in 1927 that first year of toy collection. According to club records, toys have been gathered every December, even during the depression and war years, to help families in need as well as veterans and their children.
This year's collection will support the Angel Tree program and the Christmas party held by American Legion Post 49 Auxiliary. New unwrapped toys may also be taken to Maggie's Coffee and Treats, 124 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw, until Dec. 17 to support this tradition. Mjr. Sanhty Thammavongsa, Corps director, was present at the meeting and thanked club President Ben Rice and the members for their donations.
