Warsaw Library Board was updated Monday about some of the library’s programs, such as Library Star and Bedtime Story.
Children’s Librarian Technical Assistant Duane Herendeen is updating his list of contacts for Library Star and Bedtime Story videos. Two contacts that were added were a young boy from Poland and a puppet who promotes reading from all over the world, Library Director Ann Zydek said, noting Herendeen said he received a video from a former Mikey Mouse Club member.
“It’s very exciting,” Zydek said. She said she’d let the board know about more special guests as they come up.
In other business, Administrative Assistant Robin Fosnaugh compiled and submitted the Indiana Public Library annual report to the state, Zydek said. The report is a compilation of information submitted to the state, which is joined with information from other libraries in the state, and later other states’ information.
After submitting the information, it was learned the state is using a different definition of what a program is than what the Warsaw library is using. The library has made some adjustments because the library does a lot of activities the state doesn’t count as programs, said Zydek. For the summer or winter reading programs, the state will only count events where special guests attend.
Fosnaugh will look at programs differently when she does next year’s report, Zydek said.
In other business, the board learned:
• Facility Supervisor Bruce Hively is expecting bids next week in regards to the library’s landscaping. The bids will be brought to the board during their April meeting.
• The library was closed Feb. 18 and 19, due to President’s Day and the winter storm respectively.
• The Winter Reading Bingo 2021 program concluded with a total of 245 registrations, which is about half of last year’s total, Zydek said. Overall, 69% of those who registered participated by turning in at least one bingo sheet, with 57% completing the whole card and claiming a free book.
• The library had a boiler test on March 1, which was passed.
