Warsaw Public Library Sets Fall Story Hours

Posted

Children who attend Warsaw Community Public Library's story hours this fall can receive an educational and fun experience.

WCPL will hold fall story hours Sept. 12 through Dec. 7.

The story hours are themed "Give a Hoot!" and include book titles incorporating the sound "Whooo" to teach children who they are, how they interact with others, and about things they enjoy as they learn pre-reading skills.

Some of the book titles include "Whooo Likes Books," "Whooo Knows His Colors" and "Whooo Can Count."

"Reading is a skill individuals need for their whole life and helping young children fall in love with books at a young age is a good thing," said Margaret Fritzel, community outreach supervisor.

There will be five library staff who will oversee crafts and lead the story hours. Six volunteers, ages 11 and up, will assist with crafts.

There will be craft times for ages 2-5 that will be related to the theme for the day.

"We want children to learn more about the library and books so these things will be a part of their lives," Fritzel said.

Two-year-olds will attend Tuesdays from 10 to 10:30 a.m., 3-year-olds will attend Wednesdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m., and 4- and 5-year-olds will meet Thursdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. A parent or guardian is required to attend with children 3 and under.

In addition, "Baby and Me" will be held the last two Mondays of September, October and November from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

"Baby and Me" is a story hour for 18- to 24-month-olds where parents can bring their infants and participate in rhymes, songs and sign language exercises led by library staff.

Registration is required for fall story hours and can be completed at the library or online at www.warsawlibrary.org anytime during the session. Any child can participate in the story hours.
