Editor, Times-Union:
I live on a rural route and typically for several months, I will not receive mail one day per week. Starting last Saturday, I received no mail but it was delivered late Sunday afternoon. This week, no received on Monday or Tuesday. I went to the Post Office and was able to get it. I was told my Wednesday mail was out for delivery. Not sure where it was delivered because I again did not receive mail on Wednesday or Thursday. I need to make another trip to town to retrieve mail. Multiple people were at the Post Office for the same reason. We were told that three routes have been added. Apparently, these routes have no carriers?
On an earlier occasion, I was told they no longer have overnight service. The three drop boxes behind the Post Office have been reduced to one. Our postage stamps continually increase in price. A neighbor lady complained on Thursday morning that a NIPSCO payment sits in her mailbox. We get mail late or not picked up and if bills are not paid on time we get charged extra. In February, my wife and I took a week vacation. I put a hold on my mail and indicated I would pick it up when I returned. I went to the Post Office but received only two days of mail. That was all they had. I came home and found the rest stuffed in my mailbox. Nobody pays attention to the instructions on the card. In my email, I can see via USPS Informed Deliver that I have mail daily. We depend on the mail for both personal and business. So far there is no delivered mail in June.
The Post Office is failing! They obviously need route drivers. How hard are they working to hire?
