Warsaw Plan Commission approved a request for preliminary and final plat, and a public way vacation request during Monday's meeting.
The commission approved a request from petitioners William and Phyllis Varney for preliminary and final plat for a residential subdivision that would create three lots at 826 S. Union St.
The commission also approved submitting a favorable recommendation to the Warsaw City Council for a request from petitioner Gary McGinnis for a public way vacation of the alley east of lot 28 of Jaques Second Addition.
The commission's approval is subject to City Planner Jeremy Skinner checking to make sure utilities are not in the alley before it is vacated.
"Our responsibilities as planners are to make sure utilities are not in the alley before the area is vacated," said commissioner Joe Thallemer.
Skinner said if utilities are found to be in the area, then an easement would be required to vacate the area.
The commission continued discussion on big box stores, the city's sign ordinance and comprehensive plan.
The commission previously discussed the items at its July 9 meeting.
The comprehensive plan was adopted in 1997 to establish Warsaw's land use development patterns, identify future land use needs and to reserve adequate land suited for residential, commercial and industrial development.
Skinner said the plan has not been updated since 1997, but needs to be to accommodate the city's economic and residential growth.
Skinner gave commissioners information on his ideas of defining large retail sales establishments and design standards. He asked commissioners to review the information and the discussion will continue at its next meeting.
The commission will meet again Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
Commissioners are Thallemer, Jeff Grose, Tammy Dalton, Lacy Francis, Tom Allen, Rick Keeven and Jim Gast.
