With a 4-1 win Monday evening, Concord High School’s varsity tennis team finished the Northern Lakes Conference season undefeated, and in the meantime spoiled the Warsaw Tigers’ senior night.
Capping their NLC season with a 7-0 record, the Minutemen won on all three singles courts and at No. 2 doubles.
The Tigers, who honored their six seniors prior to the match and whose head coach is still in the hospital with an illness, scored a win at No. 1 doubles as Bailey Buhrt and Spencer Britton rallied for a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-3 victory over Travis Herman and Cal Whitaker.
Warsaw fell to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Concord’s Will Boyer was a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Colton Lind in the No. 1 singles match, while Nate Slabauch beat Warsaw’s Kyler Bartol 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
In No. 3 singles action, Concord’s Freddy Buckingham topped Caleb Williams 6-1, 6-1.
Warsaw’s Nolan Knight and Reuben Williams put up a fight in the No. 2 doubles match, but fell 6-4, 6-4 to the Minutemen duo of Grant Luccherse and Drew McDouglen.
Seniors on Warsaw’s roster include Lind, Bartol, Buhrt, Brandon Chan, Nick Marsh and Jake Kaufman.
Warsaw won four of the 10 junior varsity matches against Concord. The Tigers got singles wins from Chan and Harrison Lewis, and doubles wins from Brian Elliott and Nick Marsh and Jake Kaufman and Michael Ray.
The Tigers are in action again Wednesday in the first round of the NLC Tournament, which will be played at Concord.
